About channelJimmy

channelJimmy is completely written, researched, and updated by Jimmy Little.  It is meant to be a personal and professional outlet for information about me, what I'm interested in, and what I'm doing.

Content

Most of the content here is written by me.  If I quote another site or video, it is always attributed and linked to.  Don't steal content.  That makes you an unproductive douche.

Workflow

I usually write posts using Byword.  It's an awesome app that saves text files to iCloud. It syncs simple text files between my iPhone 4, my iPad, and Byword for Mac.  I write using the Markdown notation.  Once written, I copy and paste into Squarespace.  Squarespace rocks.  It is a blogging platform, a CMS service, and a web design hub.  You can pick and modify a template, or go crazy-custom with CSS and HTML.  My site is a mix of both.  Squarespace uses web standards like HTML 4.01 Transitional, HTML 5, CSS 3, and Javascript.

Flash Video

Unfortunately, most of the videos I link to are still in Flash.  I am changing that as fast as the web will let me.  Just because Flash is everywhere does not make it a standard.  It is a proprietary encoder made by Adobe.  It can be changed or revoked at any moment, so why do people insist on building entire businesses around Flash video?

Images

Most of the images on this site are linked versions of the original.  If it's an Apple post, I link an image from Apple's site.  Or, I use SmugMug or Flickr's search tool to find royalty free and creative commons images.  Or I use iStockPhoto.  Don't Google for images and use them.  That's stealing.  Thieves are dicks.

Web Standards

If channelJimmy doesn’t display properly it's because you are not using a standards-compliant browser. To properly display the site, switch to a modern, standards-compliant browser like Safari, Chrome, or Firefox.  Don't e-mail me that the site looks like shit with Internet Explorer.  I don't care.  If you are using a grown-up web browser and have an issue, please let me know.
